“We are delighted to be sponsoring this category at the 2019 Caterer.com People Awards. It is fantastic to be at the forefront of celebration of talent development and success in the hospitality industry,” said Jill Whittaker FCA, Managing Director at HIT Training.
HIT Training is the largest and only national training provider that specialises in the hospitality industry. With offices across the country and over 500 staff, all of whom are experts from the hospitality sector, HIT has trained over 100,000 apprentices in its time, working with some of the biggest employers in the UK. HIT runs the only national academy for culinary, front of house, brewer and management apprentices offering a unique and unrivaled award-winning learning formula.
“HIT Training currently runs three academies, which apprentices can benefit from alongside their apprenticeships,” Jill explained. “Included in this is a newly introduced Management Academy. All three academies account for over 500 academy workshops a year, with approximately 4,000 apprentices attending in a 12-month period.”
Designed to sit alongside the Hospitality Team Member apprenticeship, the Hospitality Academy is an added value service from HIT. The Academy offers a practical enrichment programme for apprentices focused around delivering exceptional customer service and comprises of five skills-based workshops including: Customer Service Excellence, Understanding and Serving Wine, Beer and Cellar Quality, Spirits, Cocktails and the Art of Mixology and Introduction to Barista Skills.
The HIT Chef Academy is a training model for the culinary stars of the future. The academy supplements HIT’s Professional Chef Apprenticeship programme for any apprentices working in a Fine Dining kitchen and nominated by their Head Chef to participate in the academy’s enhancement activities. Apprentice chefs who are enrolled onto the Chef Academy, in addition to their normal apprenticeship schedule, will be invited to attend additional programmes roughly every six to eight weeks. These include: Culinary Masterclasses, Fresh Product Procurement, Kitchen Management and Nutrition Training.
“Well trained, competent staff are a valuable asset to any business and hospitality apprenticeships have a huge positive impact for employers, employees and the wider economy,” Jill said. “Apprenticeships help employers to increase the effectiveness and profitability of their staff, develop learners’ personal, economic and social status and enhance the level of service given to customers and clients. The hospitality industry is a team environment, and the team is only as good as its weakest member. With that in mind, helping people become the best they can be makes good business sense.”
Showcasing Top Talent
HIT Training understands the importance of our Caterer.com People Awards. “As professionals within the hospitality industry, it is important that we showcase what a career in hospitality can offer to employees,” Jill said. “Caterer.com People Awards celebrate talent initiatives in hospitality, including success in recruitment, retention and development. By shining a light on these areas, these Awards demonstrate that the hospitality industry can provide a long-term career with endless opportunities.”
HIT Training works in partnership with hospitality sector employers to improve employees’ skills, increase efficiency and enable innovation. Their sponsorship of this category is a perfect fit, and Jill agrees, “The 2019 Caterer.com People Awards celebrate the bravest and best talent initiatives in the UK hospitality industry by shining a light on success, recruitment, retention and development in hospitality. They applaud and reward everything HIT works to achieve as an apprenticeship training provider.”
