Dishoom kept calm and curried on and won Rewards and Benefits at the 2017 People Awards.

Ask any employer within the hospitality industry and they’ll all say the same: Recruiting top talent is only half the battle, keeping hold of their skills and expertise is the real trick. Of course, many factors can come into play; salary, location, a strong learning & development package, but like all of us, your people want to feel valued and the perks of the job can be just as important as any other consideration.


Not content winning one award, Dishoom scooped a second at the 2017 People Awards, this time for Rewards & Benefits.

For this category, the judges were looking for employers that could demonstrate a strategic and innovative approach to designing a benefits offering that suits the needs of a diverse workforce. Dishoom went above and beyond with their entry, which was very much steeped in their Employer Brand.

The watch word of Dishoom is ‘Seva’ meaning ‘selfless service’, doing everything with an open heart. It’s engrained in everything they accomplish at Dishoom, and their Rewards and Benefits programme is just another wonderful demonstration of seva.

Joining the Club

Joining Dishoom as a manager or being promoted is a big deal for the team. They’ve put into place a process to ensure new ‘Babus’ and promotions are always celebrated. Welcome Breakfasts are a regular occurrence at Dishoom, every new team member attends one month after joining or a promotion.

Announcements are made on the internal Dishoom Facebook group and encouragingly, these are consistently the most liked and interacted posts within the group.

In addition:

  • Team members are awarded The Babu Card, giving them £150 a month to spend on food and drink with family and friends.
  • There are frequent team days out including lunches, theatre trips and parties.
  • Dishoom has introduced healthcare benefits which cover day-to-day healthcare costs such as eye tests, prescriptions, physio and dental treatment.
  • In team surveys 90% of management teams said that they were ‘proud’ or ‘very proud’ to work for Dishoom and management turnover has fallen to below 15%.
