Social Sunday returns for its fifth year in aid of Hospitality Action

After four successful years and over £152,000 raised, Jason Atherton’s Social Sunday, sponsored by, will be returning on Sunday 7th July 2019 to unite some of the nation’s best and most respected chefs to raise money for the charity, Hospitality Action. Established in 1837, Hospitality Action has offered vital assistance to all who work or have worked within hospitality in the UK and who find themselves in crisis.

Atherton, the Principal Patron of Hospitality Action, and chefs at three of his Social Company restaurants, will each welcome a guest chef to create a bespoke, one-off lunch menu with all proceeds going to Hospitality Action. This year, over 100 establishments across the country will be supporting Social Sunday, including some of the UK’s top chefs such as; Bryn Williams, Phil Howard and Tom Kitchin. 2019 marks the second year the concept is being taken nationwide.

What’s on the menu…

At the group’s flagship restaurant, Pollen Street Social, Jason Atherton will be cooking alongside his Head Chef, Dale Bainbridge; culinary heavyweight, Pierre Koffmann, and celebrated Chef Patron of Cornerstone, Tom Brown. The six-course menu will feature signature dishes from each of the chefs including Tom Brown’s Roasted cod with curry sauce and crispy potatoes and Pierre’s Roasted Orkney scallop a la Koffmann.

Across the street at recently launched No.5 Social, Executive Chef Kostas Papathanasiou will be cooking with fellow Social Company chefs, Alex Craciun of Sosharu and Paul Walsh of the soon-to-open restaurant, The Betterment at The Biltmore, Mayfair. The three-course menu will reflect each of the chef’s individual cooking styles.

Paul Hood, chef patron of Michelin-starred restaurant, Social Eating House located in the heart of Soho, will cook with Great British Menu champion, Matt Gillan, offering a range of luxurious yet playful dishes. Highlights will include; Devon crab on toast, brown crab mayonnaise, ajo blanco, lemon, and chive; Cured and confit trout, pickled cucumber, caviar and Marie Rose and a Strawberry Bakewell with strawberry sorbet, pickled strawberries, basil and white chocolate.

All involved will give their time on a charitable basis and with further support from suppliers kindly donating produce, Social Sunday will once again showcase the generosity of the hospitality industry. Available for one service only, each event promises a unique dining experience. Lunches will be ticketed and priced between £100 and £200 per head, depending on the restaurant.

In Chelsea, Claude Bosi at Bibendum will be joined by friend and fellow two Michelin-starred chef, Sat Bains from Nottingham to create an exclusive menu featuring signature dishes from their respective restaurants. Meanwhile, Whatley Manor’s Niall Keating will host a special lunch with guest chefs; Christian Bau (Victor’s, Germany), Brett Graham (The Ledbury) and Mark Birchall (Moor Hall), totalling an impressive eight Michelin stars between them.
